9 Things Every Mom Needs to Stay Sane During Unexpected Crisis

This virus is no joke, y’all. It came out of nowhere, and it’s truly scary.

We may not have asked for any of this, but unfortunately, we have to do the best we can to navigate this National emergency.

I don’t know about y’all, but I don’t believe I am cut out for homeschooling (or being quarantined with the kids).

My aunt has six kids and homeschooled all of them. She is a phenomenal mom, and now one of her daughters is even homeschooling her son.

But we aren’t all equipped with patience and a gentle teaching spirit. So how can we cope in this crisis?

Here are a few things every mom needs to stay sane in uncertain, stressful times.

1. Tools for Online Learning

You’ll definitely need a laptop or tablet so that your kiddos can continue online learning.

Our local schools are offering e-learning, and ABC Mouse is offering free accounts to ensure kids continue learning from home.

You can sign up for a free account with the promo code SCHOOL2547.

Amazon has a great deal on the Fire HD tablet and even offers no-interest financing, making it super affordable for everyone!

2. Pantry Inventory Checklist

While I’m taking this very seriously, I’m choosing to be calm about everything. I have not hoarded or stocked up on anything.

President Trump (and our Governors and leaders) have assured us that there is plenty of food and supplies, and we don’t need to stock up.

I happen to have a deep freeze full of chicken and other meats from when I was meal prepping, and I’m going to take inventory of what we have and what we need.

I would urge you to do the same, and I would caution you to avoid stocking up for doomsday.

3. Netflix and TV Streaming Options

We cut cable several years ago and switched to YouTube TV vs DirecTV. As a result, we have access to local news, our favorite tv shows, and awesome movies.

We also saved a ton of money since YouTube TV is only $49.99 per month.

They don’t have an affiliate program, and this post is not sponsored, but I highly recommend it over Hulu Plus or Sling TV (especially Sling TV).

Some of my favorite Netflix Shows and Series Currently:

  • Dumplin’ (such a feel-good movie about embracing who you are)
  • 90 Day Fiance
  • Falling Inn Love
  • Life As We Know It
  • The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez (truly heartbreaking…grab the tissues)
  • Dead to Me

I also have an annual subscription to Hallmark Movies. They’re not just for Christmas, ya know!

4. Wine Delivery

We’re going to need a whole lot of Jesus and a little bit of wine to get through this quarantine, am I right??

You can actually subscribe to a wine delivery service online if you aren’t already stocked up.

I only drink wine sparingly, so I have a few bottles that will last me a while.

5. Shower and Get Dressed

Many of you may be in unfamiliar territory, working from home.

It’s easy to get sloppy when you don’t have to dress up every day, and I can promise you as a full-time work at home mom, you’ll feel better if you get out of your pj’s daily.

It might feel freeing for a minute, being able to stay in your pajama pants, but it does get old, and can actually be depressing.

Get up, take a shower, and get dressed to shoes. Trust me.

6. Exercise Daily

Many of our gyms are closed, but that’s no reason to stop exercising completely.

You can take the kids (or your pets) for a walk, run stairs in your home, or play Box VR to stay in shape.

Just keep moving. Try to move for at least 30 minutes every single day. Exercise is good for your well-being and will also help you from feeling isolated and just blah.

7. Creative Meal Ideas

Since people are wildin’ out and buying up all the food, you might have to get creative in the kitchen.

Take to Pinterest to find new recipes you’ve never considered cooking, and you might be surprised at what you find!

8. A Budget

I really hope that as you’re reading this, you’re not one of the many affected by restaurant and business closures.

I pray that you aren’t living without a paycheck, waiting for the day you can go back to work.

But if you are, it’s important that you don’t ignore your bills. Whether or not you have income coming in right now, you’ll need to communicate with all of them.

Many companies are extending grace and help for those in need. Foreclosures and evictions are being postponed (at the time of writing) through the end of April 2020.

If you don’t know where to start, check out my 5-Day Budget Boot Camp. It’s totally free and will walk you through, step by step how to create a budget.

9. A Side Hustle

There’s no better time than right now to think about ways to make extra money from home.

Two years ago, when I started my blog, I had no idea what I was doing.

I was completely lost, but I knew that I wanted to work from home and I had knowledge of personal finances from my banking and real estate careers.

I’m now earning up to $4,300 every month, and that extra money is coming in super handy right now in these uncertain times.

When you’re stuck at home with no outlet, a blog can be the perfect way for you to share your strengths and knowledge with the world.

And yes…you can get paid for it.

Check out my blogging tutorial, and if you’re serious about starting a blog to actually earn income, I’ll send you my video tutorial to help you get started.

Just send me a copy of your receipt for hosting, and I’ll email you the training.

You can sign up for blog hosting with my discount for just $2.95/month here.

If you’re not into blogging for profit, here’s a list of 81 different side hustle ideas.

Whether we like it or not, we are in a state of emergency. But it is vital that we stay calm and control what we can control…everything within our 4 walls.

Please pray with me for our Country and its leaders as we navigate this crisis. God is still Good, and He is in control!
