Online Dermatologist Review & Promo Code (Formerly YoDerm)

Going to the doctor (for any reason) is a complete pain in the butt. Now there’s a company called Apostrophe (formerly YoDerm) with an online dermatologist who can treat you for adult acne, wrinkles, and even hair loss.

In 30 minutes or less, you can have prescriptions for acne medication that will make your skin clearer and smoother, Latisse to make your eyelashes longer, and men can even tackle hair loss.

This isn’t a multi-level marketing scam but a legitimate consultation and treatment plan from real doctors.

At the end of this post, I’ll share an exclusive promo code to save $20 off your first order from an Apostrophe online dermatologist.

Is a Dermatologist Covered by Health Insurance?

You’re probably wondering why you’d use an online dermatologist if it’s covered by your health insurance. Oftentimes health insurance only covers a percentage of dermatology visits, leaving you to cover the rest.

Some insurance companies require a referral from your primary care physician, which means you have to visit your primary doctor, pay a copay, and then visit the dermatologist and pay a premium copay because they’re considered a “specialist”.

Factor in taking time off work to visit both doctors, copays and then prescription fees, and you’ve probably spent between $100-200 (minimum).

What About Christian Healthcare Ministries?

My family doesn’t have health insurance. We actually participate in a medical-cost sharing program called Christian Healthcare Ministries.

It works out better than insurance because when my son broke his wrist and needed two surgeries totaling $60,000, we only had to pay $1300 out of pocket!

But CHM doesn’t cover dermatology, so we have to find creative ways to save money on healthcare.

But There Isn’t a Dermatologist Near Me

You might live in a remote area and not have access to a dermatologist near you. The added expense of traveling 100+ miles to visit a derm for your skincare issues will keep just about anyone from making an appointment.

Finally…An Affordable Online Dermatologist!

When researching adult acne treatments online, I came across Apostrophe. The company has been around for a long time but rebranded from YoDerm last year.

I had my first virtual visit with a doctor earlier this year for a cold, and as a self-pay patient, it only cost me $40 for the visit and I didn’t have to video chat with anyone.

Seeing an online dermatologist is similar because you communicate via email. You’ll answer a questionnaire and share photos with the dermatologist of your problem areas.

Within 30 minutes to an hour, you’ll have a response from the doctor. You can see my Before Photos below. Two weeks into the acne regimen, my skin started feeling smooth as a baby’s bottom!

Can an Online Dermatologist Prescribe Accutane?

Remember Accutane? That harsh drug that many kids took in high school that made them look like the elephant man? That stuff is deadly…seriously.

From Apostrophe’s website:

Our dermatologists cannot prescribe Accutane through our online platform safely or legally. Accutane, while being an effective medicine, can cause liver damage, severe birth defects, and a variety of other serious side effects. The government mandates monthly counseling and blood testing to make sure that it is taken safely. For these reasons, dermatologists only prescribe Accutane to patients whose acne does not otherwise respond to traditional treatments.

What Prescriptions Can I Get from Apostrophe

Apostrophe offers medications for common hormonal acne, rosacea, and fine lines and wrinkles. My regimen consists of Tretinoin Formula (generic Retin-A cream with a few other ingredients) and Spironolactone (a moderate anti-androgen and diuretic).

What Happened to YoDerm?

As I said before, they simply rebranded to Apostrophe!

If you’re looking for YoDerm reviews, here are comments from a few customers:

Refinery 29 YoDerm Review

“If getting into a derm’s office is easy and you have insurance, you may prefer that kind of face time. But, if you want to get a doctor’s advice within a couple of days or you’ve never tried a prescription acne medication, YoDerm is a reasonably priced way to go. And hey, you can always try both — because as everyone says, it’s always smart to get a second opinion.”

Creation Despite Review of Apostrophe (formerly YoDerm)

“It’s one of my favorite innovations in skincare technology.”

Strawberry Rouge Says:

“Overall, I’m happy with the whole thing. It was a good fit for me. For those interested in it, I’d say continue researching it. When it comes to medical care (and dermatology is medical!) everyone is very unique.”

Spironolactone Acne Dosage

As mentioned before, spironolactone is a diuretic typically used to treat high blood pressure, but in smaller doses, it has been proven as an effective treatment for adult hormonal acne.

The dosage for acne in my case was 100mg of Spironolactone once a day, and I can definitely tell a major difference if I miss a couple of doses.

Tretinoin Formula

Tretinoin formula is Apostrophe’s special compounded prescription of generic Retin-A and niacinamide. Niacinamide is a form of B3 vitamins used to rebuild skin cells.

An article on Self states that niacinamide is often touted to help manage acne, rosacea, pigmentation issues, and wrinkles.  Spironolactone and tretinoin formula are both long-term skincare solutions….not meant to be quick fixes.

These are the photos I took with my phone and sent to the doctor. My worst areas are around my chin and neck, and you can see the blotchiness.  Thanks, pregnancy hormones. This hyperpigmentation shows up as dark spots and sun exposure makes it worse.

Did I mention that I’m 37 years old, and my youngest child is six? It’s been six and a half years since I’ve been pregnant, but I still suffer from hyperpigmentation.

How Much Does an Online Dermatologist Cost?

The initial visit itself is just $20, and Apostrophe actually gives it back to you as a credit towards your prescriptions. Each case is different, but the cost is anywhere from $25-90 for a three-month supply of medications.

Here’s a video I recorded a few weeks after I started using Apostrophe skincare. There are no filters in the video, but I am wearing makeup. That being said, if you suffer with adult hormonal acne or rosacea, it’s worth at least having a consultation.

Apostrophe Coupon Code PH

I’ve already mentioned this earlier, but I’ve partnered with Apostrophe to offer Perfection Hangover readers an exclusive coupon for $20 off your first visit including medication. To save $20, just enter the coupon code PH at checkout.
